The Company

The company was brand new and needed to set their image by getting a suitable logo. Their main product is Portuguese wines with a complementary bussiness of a Portuguese and Italian produce shop and a restaurant area on site.

The client wanted something Modern yet Rustic. I advised them that both themes have different visual languages and to be open to one of the visual languages being more relevant than the other.

The Process

Scoping

As a new business, the client still had no image stablished, and only had a vague vision of rustic elements with minimal Typography.

New Ideas

The further the brief went the more I realized rustic was not what the client actually wanted. In the beginning it was challenging to fully understand the clients vision, and to help I provided different type of mood boards to help us.

Timeline

The deadline was of one month, surprisingly, understanding what the client's envisioned was more challenging than the execution of the final product.

The First Selection

In my first sketches, I wanted to implement all the elements of the business Portuguese identity while keeping it modern with some rustic elements

Assessment

After having a second meeting with the client to discuss the first sketches, the client liked the modern touch but wanted something different where there were more bottle elements and fewer glasses where the cog was to be removed completely. With those requests in mind, I changed the base design completely while maintaining the visual style. I also kept the Portuguese element

The second sketches were more successful and pleasant for the client where only some elements needed to be changed. Naturally, the next step was typography finalization as well as some studies of colour and patterns to keep the Portuguese element.

Last Steps

At this stage, the client was not sure what exactly he needed, so I made an example for them to understand the usage of logos professionally.

Wrapping Up

In the end, the customer could not decide which Logo they liked the best, so they decided to acquire two.
Below it’s showcased all the versions with and without background sent to the customer.
